At 2, 3, 3:30 AM, lingering without reason, having an icecream!

At 2, 3, 3:30 AM, lingering without reason, having an icecream! is a durational, one-on-one conversational performance in public space, inviting passersby into dialogue on gendered spatial norms. It centres on the act of a woman occupying space at leisure, without justification, destination, or productivity. Originally developed in Goa, India, where women’s access to public space is often conditional or surveilled, the work opens a comparative frame in Europe: legal frameworks differ, yet women’s safety remains precarious. Through unhurried presence and participatory talk, it probes: How are spaces built and policed? What imperatives ("you must," "you should") govern women's movement? Through this participatory dialogue, it explores how spaces are designed, governed, and inhabited, and what it would mean for women to be integrated into shaping public infrastructure. The title refers to everyday imperatives imposed on women, shifting focus from individual responsibility to systemic conditions.
