“There, where it all ended…” (work in progress)

On a city bench -a seemingly neutral, public sitting spot- fleeting stories of love, loneliness, and togetherness unfold. This site-specific solo performance aims to investigate how personal narratives emerge, collide, and dissipate within the public realm. The work explores a bodily negotiation of an existential dilemma in public space: the tension between the safety of relational compromise and the risk of solitude. The bench functions as more than a set piece; it is a threshold between inner life and outer world, a place where private uses thrive in view of strangers. Intimacy, dispute, farewell, and memory are all brought into relief against the backdrop of urban life continuing indifferently around them. Through somatic awkwardness, the work examines how the body itself becomes a site of negotiation: resisting, yielding, reaching, withdrawing, hesitating. Fragmented spoken narratives — snapshots of love stories, glimpses of lived moments — emerge from and return to the body. The performance seeks to reveal how moments of connection and separation are felt in the body, shaped by space, and made visible in a location that is neither fully public nor private. The result is a bittersweet exploration of intimacy, choice, exposure, and the passage of shared human experience.
